The message from the public is striking: people want to understand the dangers facing the UK, and they believe the response should match the scale of the emergency.
Last November, nine leading experts met in Westminster to explain their assessment of the challenges facing Britain as climate change accelerates and ecosystems come under pressure. The picture they presented was bleak but the next step is clear: put the evidence before the public, confront the scale of the challenge honestly, and give people the information they need to understand what is at stake so that they, and our politicians, can act accordingly.
The expert presentations have been summarised in a 50min film that has been shown all over the UK. The film, called The People’s Emergency Briefing, has now been seen by an estimated 185,000 people, and on October 29, Climate Action Silsden will be showing it in Silsden. Of those surveyed after watching the film, 93% believed the public was not being fully informed about climate change and nature loss, as evidenced by the fact that the government is still to publish a report by UK intelligence officers warning of catastrophic national security consequences if vital ecosystems around the world collapse.
The climate and nature crisis is not simply an environmental issue, it has implications for everyday life, the security of the country and the future generations who will inherit it. Come to Silsden Methodist church at 7pm on Oct 29th to watch the film and, afterwards, be part of a discussion about what we can do in our personal lives and in our community to protect ourselves, our children and our grandchildren.
Free tickets for the film are available here and you can watch a trailer here
